WEBSITE PRELIMINARY REQUIREMENTS

If this is done correctly everything should be done quickly and the lowest cost possible. I have put together this list of steps for the first package that you will send to me so that I can begin working on your project.

COMPLETE ALL OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS AND SEND TO ME AT THE SAME TIME

STEP 1

Find websites that mirror your business that you think are the most clear and compelling. Put these in a list from favorite to least favorite under heading step 1.

STEP 2

Using those sites as a reference, think about what your menu items will be and what pages you will have. Write it in some way where I will know which pages are the main pages and which are subpages. Next to each page write a name with no spaces that I will use to name them. Try to make them make sense.

STEP 3

Write out a wireframe diagram for each of the pages listed above.

Try using your naming convention (ex. home.htm) so there's no confusion.
If a link isn't obvious, write a note about it.
For each page, write a list of keywords. Try to use words that show up on that page, as well as words you think people may put into a search engine looking for you.

TIP: Users like to be able to view things quickly without reading much. Keep text SHORT. Use a lot of headlines and images to break things up. If you can put them in a wireframe so I know how you want things.

SEARCH ENGINE TIP: Search engines need to see relevant words on the page, it helps if they are bolded in your paragraphs. The more times they show up the better so when writing text keep that in mind. They also match up to keywords that are written invisibly into the code. Use common sense when writing these.

STEP 3

TIP FOR BUILDING THESE WIREFRAMES: You should be able to build tables with word or excel. Sometimes it's easier to start with a really general table with no real details like a box that just says text in it, and then after you get the general layout of your site done, then start adding in details and moving stuff around.

STEP 4

Write a 1-3 sentence description of your site. This is what will show if say you find your site on Google under the name of your site.

STEP 4

Short Description: Allows you to instant message with anyone on the Yahoo server. Tells you when you get mail, and gives stock quotes.

STEP 5

After you have all 4 steps completed and have proofread everything, send along with any images and media to me at lisachin@optonline.net with the subject heading "Materials for ________'s Website".
